In the latest blog in the series, we take a look at some of the great training and learning opportunities available to help increase your skills as well as learn new ways to operate your business during the lockdown.


1) British Red Cross

This training from the British Red Cross has been designed for coronavirus volunteers and anybody else who wants to learn vital skills to combat the outbreak. Whether you work on behalf of a charity on the front line of the virus, or want to know how to help a friend, family member or neighbour this course will tell you all you need to know to look after yourself and others.

2) Business Gateway

Business Gateway have been running a number of webinars and online business tutorials to help businesses during the Covid 19 lockdown.  This also includes on-line tutorials that you can watch at any time including, Digital Marketing Strategy, Running a Business Remotely and Keeping your Business Safe online.

3) ACOSVO

The Association of Chief Officers of Scottish Voluntary Organisations are leading on a number of initiatives on training and support for chief executives and senior leaders working in the third sector in Scotland. They have set up a private LinkedIn members group where participants can share ideas and provide advice to help you and your organisation through the lockdown. They also host weekly check in sessions for CEOs and senior leaders.

ACOSVO are also exploring thematic areas and sub groups to facilitate discussions and best practice sharing which include Zoom calls on staff morale and governance. The meetings are free and take place on Wednesdays at 3pm and Friday at 10am.

4) University of Glasgow

If, like a lot of people, you see the lockdown as an opportunity to learn new skills then the University of Glasgow have a great range of MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses). All these online courses are free and cover a wide range of different and diverse topics from ‘Interpreting For Refugees’ to basic first aid awareness training. There are also a great range of history, medical and literacy courses to get involved in.

5) Skillshare

Skillshare is an online learning community with thousands of classes for creative and curious people, on topics including illustration, design, photography, video, freelancing, and more. Many of the tutorials are available free.
